Ghave
Time for an update! It's been a while, and honestly, many things have changed since I was posting regularly on this site. Long story short, I'm not playing Magic as much as I used to. Instead of an every day kind of thing it's now more of a weekly game of Commander (or two) with friends. I guess you could say I'm playing Magic more "casually" now, but in some ways I'm having more fun than did before.I was a bit worried about the site for a while, but I figure as long as I'm making decks and I can share them. I don't see any reason why I can't update the site casually as well.
Now on to the deck! Ghave, Guru of Spores is a fantastic five drop, three color commander who provides you three things: tokens, counters, and deaths.
The foundation of the deck is token generation. I run basic stuff like Lingering Souls, Sacred Mesa, and Eldrazi Spawn. Once we get tokens we need to make them powerful. For this I use cards like Mirror Entity, Beastmaster Ascension, and the anthems, but I also make heavy use of the reliable death triggers with cards like Black Market, Skirsdag High Priest, and Requiem Angel.
The devour creatures are especially cool here because they serve double duty of putting tokens to good use and triggering lots of deaths. Mycoloth even makes more tokens (lots of tokens). In addition, I use a few spells which generate +1/+1 counters since Ghave can convert them. He also works very well with Undying.
Take a look through the list. I enjoying playing the deck and like that it is powerful but not too much so. It's pretty cheap too; I put it together on MTGO for around 15 tickets.
